Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik extended their congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for achieving a remarkable javelin throw of over 90 meters during an international competition in Doha.
Chopra successfully crossed the significant 90m barrier with a throw measuring 90.23m, although he finished second to Germany's Julian Weber in a thrilling men's javelin event at the Doha Diamond League Meeting held on Friday.
Majhi hailed this accomplishment as a 'historic moment and a proud milestone for Indian athletics.' He expressed his admiration, stating, 'Congratulations to India’s golden boy and Olympic gold medalist, @Neeraj_chopra1, for surpassing the iconic 90m mark with an impressive 90.23m throw at the Doha Diamond League. Odisha stands with the nation in celebrating this extraordinary achievement. #OdishaForSports.'
The 27-year-old double Olympic medalist achieved this feat on his third attempt, joining an elite group of javelin throwers, including his coach Jan Zelezny from Czechia, who have recorded throws exceeding 90 meters.
Chopra is now the third Asian and the 25th athlete globally to reach this milestone. Patnaik added, 'Congratulations to India’s javelin star #NeerajChopra for making history as the first Indian to surpass the 90m mark in javelin and securing second place at the #DohaDiamondLeague. May he continue to excel and bring pride to India. Best Wishes.'
